To be a non-political, industrial
union for journalists which seeks to protect and improve pay, conditions,
pensions and fees for its members. To defend and promote freedom of information. To support the Code of Practice of
the Press Complaints Commission. To campaign for fairer employment
laws, including the legal right to strike, provided all conciliation
and ballot procedures have been followed. To seek legally binding agreements
with employers for staff and freelances. Such agreements shall include,
where mutually acceptable, legally binding arbitration and no-strike
clauses. To have a democratic union structure
based on Chapel Branches in big offices and Area Branches for small
Chapels, freelances and retired members. To prevent extremism ever hijacking
the union, a postal ballot of all members shall be held on any resolution
passed by the NEC or National Conference if 100 members sign a petition
